One of the first questions we get asked when planning a senior session is, "Where should we go for photos?" The answer is as unique as the senior themselves! The location you choose sets the entire mood of your session and tells a huge part of your story. You want to pick a place that feels authentic to you, whether that's a spot where you spend a lot of time, a place that reminds you of your hometown, or somewhere you've always wanted to be.

We always encourage our seniors to choose a location that speaks to them. Do you love the urban vibe of downtown with its brick walls and street art? Or do you feel most at home in the quiet of a rolling field at sunset? There's no wrong answer, and the perfect spot is out there for you.

What to Consider When Choosing Your Location

1. What's Your Vibe? Think about your style and personality. If you have a more classic, timeless style, a park with mature trees or a beautiful garden might be a perfect fit. If you're more outgoing and creative, an urban setting with murals or cool architecture could be the way to go.

2. What Does Your Story Say? Your senior photos are a reflection of who you are right now. Do you play a sport? Maybe the football field or a basketball court is a great place to start. Are you an artist? A studio or a fun cafe could work. The location can be a character in your story, and you get to pick what kind of story you want to tell.

3. Think About the Light As photographers, light is everything to us. We love shooting in the hour before sunset (we call it "golden hour") because it creates a warm, beautiful glow. Consider how the light will hit your chosen location at the time of your session.

Can’t Pick Just One? A Photographer's Secret

This is a very common problem, and we've got a great solution! We often suggest that our seniors pick two locations that are very close to each other. This is the key to getting the most out of your session without wasting time on travel. For example, if you love the idea of a grassy field at sunset but also want a more industrial feel, we might suggest a session at a park that is right next to an old barn or a quiet side street with some cool architecture.

By choosing two spots that are just a five-minute drive from each other (or even within walking distance!), we can get two completely different looks and vibes for your gallery. This gives you so much more variety without rushing the experience or losing that precious golden-hour light.

Your senior session is a celebration! Take some time to think about a location that feels like you. And if you have a hard time picking, just let us know. We’d be happy to help you find the perfect spots to tell your story.
